Troubleshoot Response Data Handling

Response Data Handling enables you to store responses from third-party systems in a ProntoForms Data Destination. You can use the stored response output in subsequent Data Destinations to make sequential requests to other systems. This topic helps you troubleshoot unexpected results related to Response Data Handling.

Problem

You might notice that records or objects in your third-party system were not updated as you expected. You might also notice that executed destinations have not stored the output that you expected.

Cause

A number of configuration errors could cause unexpected results. These errors include:

• Incorrect order of the initial (parent) and subsequent (child) Data Destinations in the Form Builder.

• An incorrect DREL expression in the child Data Destination.

Solutions

Check the DREL expression in the child Data Destination

If you get unexpected results, the DREL expression might contain an incorrect parent destination unique identifier or an incorrect key.

1. Navigate to the form submission processed by the initial (parent) Data Destination:

   Data & Analytics > Submissions (by Form) > FormName > Reference #.

   

2. Expand the Form Submission Processing and Destinations sections, and then select Response Outputs.

   

   Result: The system displays the list of stored response outputs. The following image shows the response output from a Salesforce Account Data Destination:

   

3. Check the following details:

   • Did the destination store any values? If not, check that this destination has the Store all response outputs… option selected:

     Manage Forms > Data Destinations > Destination Name.

     

   • Note the “key” values to compare with the DREL expression in the child destination.

4. Check that the subsequent (child) Data Destination uses the correct keys and the correct parent destination unique identifier in the DREL expressions.

   • Go to Manage Forms > Data Destinations > Destination Name > EDIT DATA DESTINATION > Field Mapping > Custom Salesforce Fields

   

   The %o DREL reference links the initial and subsequent ProntoForms Data Destinations. Check your DREL expression, as described in the following example:

   %o[Destination Unique ID A Unique ID refers to the specific identifier of a question, form page, form section, or Data Destination. Unique IDs are used as reference points when pulling data for conditional logic, Analytics projects, Data Destinations, and Documents.][key]

   where

   • Destination Unique ID is the unique identifier for the initial Data Destination, and

   • key identifies a specific value in the stored response.

Check the parent-child relationships in the third-party system

The parent-child relationships must already exist in the third-party system. ProntoForms does not create these relationships.

Check the order of the destinations in the ProntoForms Form Builder

The parent Data Destination must precede the child Data Destinations. Even though Response Data Handling is enabled, the Data Destinations will execute without failure despite an incorrect order of execution. Salesforce will create the objects, but they will not be related.

Note: This only applies to Regular Destinations. You cannot save and deploy a form with Repeatable Destinations in the wrong order.

1. In the Form Builder, select the DESTINATIONS tab.

2. Drag and drop the parent Data Destination above child Data Destinations.
